The Indian Sign Language Conference took place in New Delhi on 25–26 April 2026, bringing together deaf leaders, experts, and advocates from across India to exchange knowledge, experiences, and strategies to advance sign language rights.

Hosted by the All India Federation of the Deaf (AIFD), the conference provided an important platform for dialogue on the recognition, development, and promotion of Indian Sign Language. Participants explored key challenges and opportunities related to education, accessibility, policy, and inclusion.
The World Federation of the Deaf actively contributed to the programme through several presentations, sharing global perspectives and best practices from different regions of the world. These contributions highlighted international frameworks, including the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), and emphasised the importance of aligning national efforts with global standards on linguistic and human rights.

Through these exchanges, participants gained valuable insights into successful advocacy strategies, policy development, and the role of deaf leadership in driving change. The conference also fostered stronger connections between national and international stakeholders, reinforcing collaboration within the global deaf communities.

By bringing together local expertise and global knowledge, the Indian Sign Language Conference 2026 marked another important step towards the full recognition and inclusion of sign languages in India.
