Florjan Rojba, WFD Board Member, was in Belgrade, Serbia, where he contributed as a trainer in a workshop focused on improving access to information about domestic and gender-based violence for deaf individuals. The two-day training was part of the “Sign for Protection – Recognize Violence, Take Action!” program, aimed at empowering deaf women and strengthening their knowledge of protection mechanisms and human rights.

During the sessions, Mr. Rojba provided an overview of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), emphasising how its principles can be used to advocate for better accessibility, equal protection, and the right to information. He also presented examples of successful national-level advocacy initiatives from different countries, illustrating how deaf communities can work with authorities, institutions, and civil society to improve access to services related to safety and support.

Participants engaged actively throughout the workshop, discussing human rights, the situation of deaf women, accessibility barriers, and available protection tools such as SOS applications for the deaf. The event created a safe and supportive environment for sharing experiences and asking questions, contributing to greater awareness and empowerment within the communities.
