In September 2025, the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) launched a global search for a new Executive Director. We received a large number of highly qualified applications from around the world, representing diverse profiles and professional backgrounds. We extend our sincere thanks to Innivee Strategies for their support, which helped generate such a strong pool of candidates.
The WFD is now pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Moore as its next Executive Director, beginning 1 January 2026. The Board selected Mr Moore for his extensive leadership experience and his proven ability to strengthen and modernise organisations at a strategic level.
“The WFD is thrilled to have an experienced NGO leader taking on the leadership of the WFD Secretariat. John’s proven capacity for financial growth and grant acquisition provides the expertise needed to stabilise and expand WFD’s revenue base globally, allowing us to continue our vital human rights work around the globe.”
WFD President Dr Joseph J. Murray
Mr Moore, a U.S.-based deaf professional, brings 30 years of experience in the non-profit sector, where he has led organisational improvement and has a history of securing sustainable funding. His previous roles included overseeing significant budget growth and developing funded training initiatives experience which aligns with the WFD’s goal of supporting capacity development across its 138 Ordinary Members (OMs).
“I’m beyond thrilled to be selected as the next Executive Director of the WFD. I look forward to diving into our vital task of supporting our international projects and the WFD’s 138 Ordinary Members (OMs) worldwide.”
Mr John Moore
In his previous employment, Mr Moore successfully transitioned from the non-profit sector to an international for-profit corporate environment, demonstrating his expertise in systems mastery and process optimisation. His previous NGO work directly resulted in capacity building and financial growth. This experience in developing and implementing funded training programs showcases a transferable ability to support similar capacity development initiatives needed by the WFD’s Ordinary Members (OMs) in diverse regions.
Drawing on his combined experience in NGO leadership and international organisational environments, Mr Moore is well-positioned to reinforce the WFD Secretariat and support our long-term strategic development. His appointment marks an important step in expanding our global impact.
With Mr Moore’s appointment, the WFD reaffirms its commitment to advancing the human rights and linguistic rights of deaf people everywhere.
