This policy marks a significant step in strengthening our commitment to deaf communities around the world during times of crisis. Grounded in the principles of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the CRPD, and other key humanitarian standards, the WFD policy ensures that no deaf person is left behind in the face of disasters—natural, climate-related, or humanitarian.
The policy outlines our advocacy strategy, coordination with member organisations, and a structured response procedure for emergencies. It provides a clear framework for inclusive disaster response, promotes deaf leadership, and strengthens collaboration with governments and humanitarian agencies.
We will work closely with our Members, providing technical support, capacity building, and access to resources—prioritising resilience, rapid response, and recovery.
Through this policy, the WFD reaffirms its role as a global advocate for the rights, safety, and inclusion of deaf people in disaster contexts. Together, we will build a world where deaf people everywhere can sign anywhere.
