IDA (International Disability Alliance), composed of different disability organisations around the world, just held its elections for a new board and general assembly leaders, and for the first time, 4  signing deaf people were elected to IDA governance positions.

2 signing deaf people were elected to the IDA Board: Dr Joseph Murray and Bobbi Beth Scroggins, an independent Board member.  In the General Assembly, Juan Angel De Gouveia, a deaf person who represents the people with disabilities of América Latina was elected as one of the Vice Presidents and Sanja Tarczay, the WFDB President was elected as one of the Vice Presidents.

That makes a historic record in the International Disability Movement, with many signing deaf people in leadership positions. We are thrilled to see the evolution of more signing deaf people becoming involved in IDA governance.

The WFD encourages you, as deaf people, as part of your work and advocacy in your country, to consider being involved with organisations of persons with disabilities.A graphic showing photos and titles of the IDA Governance Elections General Assembly Leadership and Board members, including their names and positions.
