Every year, the States Parties and Civil Society Organisations meet during the COSP at the UN headquarters in NYC to review progress in implementing the CRPD. The COSP is a key moment for disability movement that brings Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), state delegations, technical experts, donors and International Non-Government Organisations (INGOs) like the WFD in this important international event to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities.

Over four days, the WFD President and Vice President made many statements, including one during the opening of the COSP at the General Assembly.

We co-hosted a side event with the Permanent Mission of Belgium on AI. We emphasised that governments and private enterprises comply with co-design principles by consulting with representative organisations of deaf people under Article 4.3 of the CRPD.

We also are panellists at various side events. We took the opportunity to highlight the rights of deaf people. We have had many meetings with different official representatives. At these meetings, we encouraged putting deaf people on the agenda and raised the necessary to collect data on the experience of deaf people around the world.

These 4 days are an important step in WFD’s action plan, whose vision is of a world where deaf people everywhere can sign anywhere.
