From 16–18 May 2026, the WFD Board member, Ms Hjordis Haraldsdottir, participated in the Inclusive Education Task Team of the International Disability Alliance meeting in Kenya. The meeting also marked the first in-person gathering of the group since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting focused on advancing inclusive education for persons with disabilities and strengthening collective advocacy efforts within the disability movement. It included presentations of the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and Education in Emergencies (EiE) projects, followed by reviews of ongoing activities, project outcomes, tools, and resources developed through the initiatives.

Participants also discussed opportunities to strengthen systems-change approaches and improve coordination across the alliance in response to emerging global challenges in inclusive education. An important outcome of the meeting was the decision for the Inclusive Education Task Team to continue as an Inclusive Education Working Group, following a more structured and collaborative approach similar to the expert groups under WFD.

The discussions highlighted the importance of strong collaboration and continued commitment to promoting inclusive education worldwide.
