Ms Youngs as Project Officer for Maghreb area until February 2018.
Ms Megan Youngs from Canada has been appointed as the WFD’s new Project Officer 1 September onwards. She will be responsible for the WFD’s project in the Maghreb area. Participants from five countries, namely Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Mauritania and Tunisia, have already attended three training workshops to gain more insight in organisational leadership, human rights and advocacy work, for the past one and a half years. Ms Youngs replaces Mr Paul Scott as manager until the end of the project in February 2018. Mr Scott will leave the WFD to pursue a new opportunity.
Ms Youngs will no doubt bring additional value to the project thanks to her previous involvement in the field: 14 years of teaching experience in different environments, management skills and broad understanding in developing liaisons and strengthening engagement between the local Deaf Community and other stakeholders. Ms Youngs also knows the WFD as she has worked as trainer in the past.
“I am motivated to work with the training participants again to ensure that this project will be wrapped up with sustainable outcomes”, Ms Youngs states. “I also find it very rewarding to be able to promote positive engagement among Deaf community members in their advocacy for equal human rights in their own countries”, she concludes.
