Paul Scott from the United Kingdom was recently appointed as the WFD Project Officer for the Maghreb Region. He will be based at the WFD Office in Helsinki, Finland.
The two-year project grant, funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, will be used in strengthening the organisational capacity of the associations of the deaf in Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania as well as providing training on human rights.
Mr Scott will be responsible for coordinating the project and working as one of the trainers. Before accepting the new post at the WFD he used to work as a Project coordinator in Jordan in a non-governmental organisation working for the empowerment of deaf Jordanians and their families through training. “I am very honored to have been chosen to work for this project and to be able to contribute to the human rights situation of deaf people in the Maghreb region. I also look forward to meeting my colleagues at the WFD Secretariat and getting to know better the work that the organisation is doing globally”, wrote Mr Scott when being interviewed for this press release. Mr Scott has a MA from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) and previous working and academic experience from the Arab countries. “I am glad that the WFD managed to find a person with previous knowledge and understanding of the history, languages and culture of the region,” affirmed WFD’s President Mr Colin Allen.
The project will officially start in March 2016.
