As part of the WFD 75th Anniversary Celebration Series, a panel of experts shares practical solutions, lived experiences, and deaf-led approaches to accessible disaster preparedness, humanitarian response, and climate resilience.
Disasters and climate-related hazards continue to expose the communication barriers and systemic exclusion experiences by deaf people before, during, and after crises. Inaccessible early-warning systems, limited access to information in national sign languages, communication barriers with emergency responders, and the exclusion of deaf-led organisations from planning and decision-making can place deaf people at a greater risk.
This webinar highlights practical solutions, community experiences, and global advocacy initiatives that are supporting the transformation of disaster preparedness, early warning systems, humanitarian response, and climate resilience through deaf-led approaches.
Participants gain an understanding of the foundations of Disaster Risk Reduction, the unique risks experienced by deaf communities, and the World Federation of the Deaf’s strategic work to promote deaf-inclusive humanitarian action.
