Human Rights Training with ANSORDO
In January 2019, Discovering Deaf Worlds (DDW) invited Colin Allen AM, President of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) to provide a series of training sessions on Deaf Human Rights for the WFD Ordinary Member, Asociación Nacional de Sordos de la República Dominicana (ANSORDO) in the Dominican Republic. There were 15 participants who attended the training.
WFD President Allen AM interviewed representatives of the ANSORDO as well as staff members of DDW. This interview series consists of three sections:
The first interview was with Ms Liliana Mariotti Paz, President, ANSORDO and Mr Pablo Taveras, Vice President, ANSORDO to discuss deaf human rights issues. Each individual explained what they had learnt following participation in the week-long training session.
The following interview with Ms Lilian Mariotti Paz, ANSORDO President and Mr Pablo Taveras, ANSORDO Vice President reviewed their achievements after the one-week training program. This involved the group delivering a community workshop on Human Rights for the Deaf Community within local Deaf Communities in two cities, Santo Domingo and Santiago.
WFD and DDW have partnered since 2016, working together to support successful training projects in the Philippines, the Dominican Republic and an upcoming project in Asia. This interview provides an introduction to DDW’s work, describes the current collaboration between the two organisations through the training project in the Dominican Republic and the work of the DDW for the Deaf Community globally. The interview participants were Ms History Varner and Ms Sashiko Flores who are the Co- Executive Directors of DDW.
