  • Funded by SHIA and SDR
  • 2007-2008
  • a wide fact finding survey conducted on 7 WFD Secretariat Regions (EEMAR, SR/AP, RSSA, MCAC, RSESA, WCAR, RSAR)
  • Aim: seek data on various issues, obtain comprehensive view of the situation of both deaf people and national associations of the deaf
  • Needs identified:
    • increase awareness on CRPD
    • support and strengthen capacity of national organisation so that they can empower themselves
    • strengthen capacity of deaf people to run their own organisations independently and democratically
    • increase awareness of the larger deaf community issues and human rights
    • WFD RSAR identified in average the weakest, together with WCAR
The precise successes of the World Federation of the Deaf I can point out are the contributions they did for the recognition of sign language at the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. And it is also remarkable the mainstreaming process of the perspective of deaf people at United Nations and all the effort (they) put into it.

You can easily notice the contribution of the World Federation of the Deaf towards different national organisations. I can only praise the constant, systematic and academic work of the World Federation of the Deaf, which has enforced the human rights of deaf people with much respect.
