VALE – Dr Bernard Bragg (1928 – 2018)

The WFD is saddened to learn the passing of Dr Bernard Bragg. We would like to extend our condolences to his family and friends.
Dr Bragg is an influential figure in the global deaf culture and arts. He was internationally known for his advocacy work through art performances to inspire, empower and educate deaf people to discover their limitless capability.

To honour this, in 2001 Dr Bragg received the WFD Special Lifetime Achievement Award during the 50th Anniversary of the WFD held in Rome, Italy.

Dr Bragg is passionate and committed in creating impactful and meaningful change. At the XV World Congress of the WFD in 2007 held in Madrid, Spain, Dr Bragg donated USD $25,000 to the WFD. The money was used to ensure that WFD is able to disseminate accessible information about human rights of the deaf people through our website.

The WFD honours his legacy by continuing to achieve dreams of Dr Bragg to see that deaf people worldwide gain full human rights through sign language.
