INVITATION
Dear Friend!
On behalf of the SINOSZ we would like to invite you to the International Conference “Human rights. Yes!”
DATE: 25 September 2009 (Friday) from 9:30 to 17:30
VENUE: European Youth Center, 1028 Budapest, Zivatar utca 1-3.
Hall “A”
High Patron: Dr. Máté Szabó, Parliamentary Commissioner for Civil Rights
Organiser: Hungarian Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SINOSZ)
The Hungarian Parliament has committed itself to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to ensure the effective promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities in all areas of life. Among others, the Convention obliges Hungary to increase social awareness about the inclusion of persons with disabilities, namely to provide awareness-training programmes regarding persons with disabilities and the rights of persons with disabilities.”
SINOSZ, the Hungarian Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, is publishing the training manual "Human Rights. Yes!". It provides important information on the Convention, its key provisions and potential impact. The training manual gives persons with disabilities, their caretakers and families a solid foundation to turn the milestone of a new human rights treaty into an activist's tool to enable each and everyone to advocate for their rights and contribute to the societal change necessary to ensure that everyone can enjoy equal opportunities.
To celebrate the launch of "Human Rights. Yes!", SINOSZ is hosting an international conference showcasing the opportunities and methods of the training manual.
Based on "Human Rights. Yes!", the Conference will provide group work and exercises to gain a better understanding of the provisions of the UN Convention, to allow for application in advocacy work and everyday life. The conference will also allow for the establishment of co-operation between interested people and groups to take the implementation of the Convention forward together.
The presenters and participants include representatives of the Hungarian government, Hungarian and international NGOs, people with disabilities, lawyers and other people some of whom developed the training manual, as well as experts on the implementation of the UN Convention.
The working language of the conference is Hungarian and International Sign Language, Hungarian, and English.
Participation is free.
Please, indicate your wish to attend by the 20th of August.
